Questions and answers
What guests ask us most often.
How much does a Tanzania safari cost?
Our private safaris start from US$590 per person for three days and US$1,050 for five days, based on two travellers sharing a budget-tier trip. Mid-range lodges cost more, a solo traveller pays more per person, and groups of three to six pay less per person. Every itinerary page shows the full price table by group size and tier.
When is the best time to go on safari in Tanzania?
June to October is the dry season and the best time for wildlife density and easy driving. January to March is best for wildebeest calving in the southern Serengeti. April, May and November are the rainy months: green, quiet and cheaper. See our month-by-month guide for details.
Are your safaris private or shared?
All of our safaris are private: your own 4x4 Land Cruiser, your own driver-guide and your own pace. Every traveller gets a window seat and the roof opens for game viewing and photography.
How far in advance should I book?
For June to October and the Christmas and New Year period, book six to nine months ahead to secure your preferred lodges. For other months, two to three months is usually enough. Contact us even if your dates are closer; we will tell you honestly what is available.
What is included in the price?
Private 4x4 vehicle and driver-guide, accommodation, meals as listed, park and conservation fees, drinking water, airport transfers and all listed game drives. International flights, visas, travel insurance, tips and optional activities are not included. See each itinerary for the full list.
How do I pay and how much is the deposit?
We ask for a 30% deposit to confirm your booking and the balance 45 days before arrival, by bank transfer. Card payments are possible with a 3% processing fee. Full terms are on our payment and cancellation page.
Do I need a visa for Tanzania?
Most visitors need a visa, which you can apply for online on the official Tanzania Immigration eVisa portal before you travel. Requirements and fees depend on your nationality, so check with the Tanzanian government before you book flights. Your passport must be valid for at least six months.
Do I need malaria tablets and vaccinations?
Malaria is present in most safari areas, so most travellers take preventive medication. Speak to your doctor or a travel clinic six to eight weeks before departure. A yellow fever certificate is required if you arrive from a country with yellow fever transmission.
Is a safari in Tanzania safe?
Yes. Safaris are well established and our guides are experienced in wildlife safety. You stay inside the vehicle on game drives except at designated picnic spots and on guided walks. Follow your guide’s instructions, and arrange travel insurance with medical cover.
Can children go on safari?
Yes, and many families do. Some lodges and activities have minimum ages (walking safaris and balloon flights are typically for older children). Tell us your children’s ages when you enquire and we will recommend suitable lodges and pace.
How much should I tip?
Tipping is customary and appreciated. As a general guideline, many travellers tip the driver-guide about US$15–25 per day per group and camp staff a smaller amount, but it is always voluntary and based on your experience. We give you a tipping guide before you travel.
Can I add Zanzibar or Kilimanjaro to my safari?
Zanzibar beach extensions are part of our catalog (see the 9-day Safari & Zanzibar trip). Tell us what you have in mind and we will plan it around that.
