Tarangire National Park is known for some of the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania and for its ancient baobab trees. In the dry season, wildlife crowds along the Tarangire River, which gives dependable sightings close to Arusha, only about two hours’ drive away.

When to go
From June to October the park is at its best for wildlife density. During the green season (November to May) the animals disperse across a wider area, the park is quiet and green, and birdwatching is excellent.
